akd is kicking my ass. lots of design work to help support my brokeass artist life. i just deposited a meek check of which half went to the negative amount in my checking account. i can’t believe my parents raised 3 children on factory wages, even back when the minimum wage was under $4/hour. can you imagine? and i shouldn’t complain about my work but i do because i don’t want to spend the rest of my life designing for a consumer culture. i’ve been working on name options for a new initiative my client will be launching. a huge project but also a huge ball of stress. we’re talking the kind that involves yarns and tangled kitties. and no one likes tangled kitty cats. my cat got caught in a plastic bag once when he was just a kitten and has never quite recovered. he freaks out after just hearing the rustling of plastic bags. he also doesn’t like to pee or poop while others are present. it’s a shame thing. and i forget that i wouldn’t like people watching me excrete bodily fluid either. except spit. everyone loves seeing people spit on people. or maybe just puck on david, or that one traveler at the flight attendant or that baseball fan/player spit incident. and did you hear about hillary swank splitting up with chad lowe. does nothing last in hollywood? who is more beautiful: Ziyi Zhang or Suzuka Ohgo; Penelope Ann Cruz or Salma Hayak; Grace Kelley or Scarlett Johanssen; Audrey Hepburn or Rosario Dawson? and who is hotter Johnny Depp or Orlando Bloom? and did you know that Johnny Depp is part vietnamese — yep — that’s Johnny Dhiep. don’t fall for his “half cherokee” claim. don’t all white people claim some sort of indian lineage? it’s the whole exoticizing the people you rape and pillage thing. and now there’s a new movie out about Pocahontas and John Smith and the “clash between civilizations.” speaking of the clash, what happened to punk music. i mean real punk music where safety pins were actually used to hold clothes together. but if i say real punk music – does that mean it also comes with a pinch of racism? i’ll have mine with all the fervor of youth and resistance and without prejudice. remember the bollywood-ish flick “bride and prejudice?” naveen andrews was in it. and what up with lost – now there’s a whole other group of people. battle on. i’m addicted to battlestar galactica. it’s one of the first series to cause me to go surfing for spoilers and poking around fanboards. there are some crazy fans out there. there’s even a bunch of BSG communities on LJ. i remember comng across someone who wrote about running into the Starbuck actor on a flight to portland. they say TV adds 15 pounds to people. so how skinny is calista flockhart. oh and how about flock of seagulls and them crazy hairdays. anyone ever do the high hair thing? i mean not teased out hair but like air defying hair where your bangs were the length of your chin and then you’d take a can of hairspray and a blow dryer and put it way up!!! so yes i’m really up on my pop culture. that doesn’t make me any less political or any less fierce. i love a good dose of brainlessness. TV is a drug and i’m proud to be using it. i’m still up ‘cuz the spicy chai is keeping me awake and i should really try to sleep. i tried to stop the sun from setting and so i tried to lick and pinch and scream at her. she wouldn’t listen. she kept slipping into the sea until all her red hues vanished. until her orange glowed no more. until the sea swallowed her whole.

all this reminds me of the cure album – standing on the beach / staring at the sea. the cure is just perfect for this kind of dismal existence. and now i head to seattle for depressing rain weather and catching up with old friends in new life crises. and freewrites shouldn’t make sense. and that’s okay. we live with the sacred and the profane. every moment is precious.
